Living or visiting East Tennessee you will have an abundant amount of outdoor activities. Whether it is hiking, biking, fishing, hunting, boating, off-roading, or just wildlife watching you will not be disappointed. One of our favorite pastimes is hiking in our area. Here are some detailed directions and some videos to our favorite spots to hike.
The Clarks Creek area bordering both Washington and Unicoi County is one of our favorite spots. With many accessible waterfalls and many that are less accessible, it hosts one of the most viewed in our region, as well as one of the tallest in the Eastern United States.
Sill Branch Falls
From Jonesborough follow TN-81 S for 7.2 Miles. Turn Right on TN-107 W and follow for 4.9 miles. Turn left on Clarks Creek Road for 3.3 miles. This road will turn into a forest service road. The trail head with a small parking area will be on your left. You will be rewarded with an amazing 60ft waterfall that you can walk up to. Driving past this another 3/4 of a mile you will come to a “U” shaped parking area on your left, with a trail head labled Longarm Branch. This will lead you to Pine Ridge Falls. This waterfall is 30ft but is just as impressive.
Martin’s Creek Falls is in Erwin, Tennessee. This short hike awards you with a beautiful waterfall tucked away in the Appalachian Mountains.
From I-26 coming from Johnson City follow 1-26 take exit 37 toward Erwin/Jonesborough. Turn left onto TN-107/TN-81 for .4 miles. Continue straight onto 2nd St. for .1 mile. Turn right onto N Elm Ave for .2 miles. Turn left onto Gay St for .3 miles. Turn left ot stay on Gay St for .1 miles. Turn right onto S. Mohawk Dr for .5 miles. After traffic circle take the 2nd exit onto Tennessee Rd for .9 miles.
Margarette Falls Trail in Greene County Tennessee is probably the most photographed in East Tennessee and if you explore a little you will find a hidden gem of Bailey Falls. You will get wet if you attempt, but the reward is worth every drop of water.
From Jonesborough follow TN-81 S for 7.2 Miles. Turn right onto TN-107 for 13 miles. Turn left onto Horse Creek Park Rd for .8 miles. Turn Right onto Horse Creek Park Rd for .8 miles. Turn right onto Union Chapel Rd for 500ft. Turn left onto Green Ridge Loop for .7 miles. Take a sllight left turn onto Greystone Rd for 4 miles. Turn left onto Shelton Mission Rd for 1.4 miles. The parking area is on the right.
Squibb Creek Falls is tucked away in Horse Creek Park in Greene County. This waterfall is secluded and you will probably be the only ones on the trail. This trail is unique because you will come to a house shortly up the trail. Be sure to look up the information about this house. It is really interesting.
From Jonesborough follow TN-81 S for 7.2 Miles. Turn right onto TN-107 for 13 miles. Turn left onto Horse Creek Park Rd for 3 miles. Park your car in the parking lot and walk to the bridge that crosses the creek on the left.
Rock Creek Falls is in Rock Creek Park outside the town of Erwin, Tennessee. This 4.2 mile round trip hike will lead you to many cascades on the way to a beautiful two-tier waterfall. There are many creek crossings on the way, so plan on getting your feet wet.
From I-26 take exit 34 to Main Street in Erwin, take a left on TN 395 east for 3.5 miles to Rock Creek Recreation Area.
Howards Rock and Viking Mountain in Greene County. Probably the best view in East Tennessee. The history on this is amazing. Make sure you watch both videos on this, as our early one has pics from the past of what this mountain could have been. The Appalachian Trail also winds through this area.
Red Fork Falls in Unicoi County is near the famous Beauty Spot Lookout. Both of these places are awe-inspiring and leaves you with breathtaking memories. Just be careful when going to Red Fork Falls. People have fallen to their death at these Falls. It is a shorter hike, but requires a lot of climbing.
Section hiking on the Appalachian Trail is a must in our area. With every spot in the area has a 10-20 minute drive to a spot to get on the trail, makes this place a must if you are wanting to explore on a sunny
